Star Lokta Paper Gift Wrap - Natural

These gorgeous sheets of star gift wrap are handmade and come in a range of colours. Each sheet of gift wrap is approximately 75 x 50cm. All the paper is Fair Trade and handmade in Nepal from Lokta, a plant native to the Himalayas. The vibrant colours are created using only azo-free dyes.

The paper is made from the bark of the Lokta or Daphne papyracea plant, that grows in the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal. Mountain villagers trek to where the lokta grows, harvest it, then transport it back to the village. It is boiled, cleaned, then beaten with mallets to product the fibre pulp. It is then mixed with water and poured into a shallow floating frame made from bamboo poles stretched with canvas, then sun-dried to produce the crisp long fibre paper. Once dry it’s ready to be dyed.
